The period or menstrual cycle is the monthly process which a women’s body goes through. The uterus lining every month gets thicker to prepare for the fertilised egg. However, if the egg is not fertilised the lining (uterus) will break apart and the same is released from the body in the form of blood through the vagina. It is a monthly process and the cycle is of 28-30 days. In some cases, women experience a miss in their period. There are many biological, physical and mental factors associated with it. Thus, below mentioned are the major reasons if you miss your period.
Stress is a major factor which disrupts your period cycle if you aren’t undergoing any health issues. When you are under a lot of stress, the level of your reproductive hormones like oestrogen and follicle-stimulating hormone reduces thereby, your ovulation stops leading to missed period.
The thyroid disease, be it hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism disrupts your period cycle. It causes an extreme hormonal imbalance in your body. Moreover, in thyroid, your body reduces the oestrogen and cortisol level which also cause irregularity in your periods.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) or Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD) is a disease which causes cysts in the ovaries and tremendously affects the sex hormones in the female body. Thus, causing irregularities or missing periods.
Heavy workout and strenuous exercises often affect your period cycle. It affects your thyroid and pituitary glands which in turn affects the menstruation. Therefore, if you spend more time in the gym doing a heavy workout, you may face irregularity in your periods.
Change In Diet:
The change in food habits and diet also play a major role in changing your period cycle. If you intake more of fibre rich foods then your oestrogen level will take a fall and you can miss your periods. Eating disorder, weight gain or weight loss can also affect your monthly cycle.
