Tips To Take Care Of A Premature Baby Or A Preemie

A premature baby is born three weeks prior to the assumed date of delivery. The premature birth occurs before entering the 37th week of pregnancy while a normal pregnancy usually lasts near about 40 weeks. Premature babies or preemies are at higher risk of developing complications like breathing problems, low blood glucose level, infections etc. Sometimes the babies are required to keep in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a longer time. The mother of the preemie is generally scared and nervous to take care of the baby. Not only the mother but the entire family seem stressed and worry regarding the baby care. Be with you baby:
Spending much time with your baby is the first and foremost thing you should be doing even when your baby is in the Intensive Care Unit. Right After delivery, it might seem difficult for you to be around your baby but try to manage your presence near the little one. This would help you to be well accustomed with your preemie’s behaviour and difficulties. Moreover, your baby needs you the most. Apart from every medical and nursing attention, the warmth and the love of the mother can cure the child soon. You can request your doctor to let you be with your baby during the ICU days. Breast milk is necessary:
Your preemie may not be able to suck the breast milk due to its weakness or breathing problems. you have to extract your milk by a pumper machine and you can ask the nurse to pour it in a bottle, tube or any medically designed container.  It will help your baby to consume your milk. Breast milk has various rich nutrients which are extremely important to your newborn to develop immunity and brain function. other than that, after your delivery, it is needed to discharge your breast milk to develop the regular milk supply system for the baby. Care your preemie:
always try to engage yourself in taking care of the baby even when the baby is under the supervision of the nurses and the staffs. involve yourself in its daily care. Observe the techniques and the way of caring your premature baby. Ask the nurse if there is any possible way you could be a part of. Learn how to sponge, feed and diapering the preemie. Your touch and care will gratify the baby.

Learn your baby’s instinct:
As your baby is a preemie, you should be well aware of its instincts and behaviours. It will help you later to make him or her comfortable. it might be possible you baby would develop lung or heart problem and live with these diseases. You should be accustomed to the health problems and it’s basic treatments. This will only be possible if you understand baby’s feeding habits, medications and other human behaviours.
