How to treat the most common diseases in new born babies

Childbirth is a time of celebration but parents have to remain cautious about the health and proper hygiene of their child. The little ones can’t convey their pain through words. Therefore, they depend on their parents to understand their sufferings. Newborn babies are more prone to diseases and infections. Their immune system is not completely developed to fight against various infections.

Listed below are some of the most common diseases found in infants:

Constipation: Constipation is one of the most common problems faced by infants due to lack of bowel movement. The stool becomes hard and it also becomes difficult to excrete it out. It also leads to vomiting and sudden weight loss.

What causes constipation?
The tightness of muscles near large intestine can often result in constipation. If we don’t give liquid diet to the child in an efficient amount, it often results in constipation. Declining of a rich fibrous diet also adds up to the constipated state.

How can we deal with it?
Provide an adequate amount of liquid diet to the child. Make sure that the water content in the child is up to the mark. An addition of fibrous food or fiber-rich diet is necessary to help the child come out of the problem.

Colic: It is also one of the common diseases among newly born babies. It is generally visible if the child cries for more than 30 minutes continuously and takes place when the child is around 3- 4 weeks old.

What causes colic?
Lack of movement of the baby and inappropriate diet often leads to colic. It may occur due to the formation of a hernia in the stomach. Infants are also prone to allergies, it may be the result of their lactose intolerance from milk and milk products. This could be the result of their habit of being fed by breastfeeding.

How can we deal with it?

If the child is allergic to dairy products or has developed the certain type of intolerance to lactose then their diet should be changed. One can avoid dairy products and milk-based products in child’s diet. In the case of a hernia, one should immediately go to the doctor.

Diarrhea: If the stool is too loose, it results in diarrhea. It leads to the vomiting, loss of water from the body. If a child moves more than usual and suffers from stomach ache, loss of appetite, then he is surely suffering from diarrhea.

What causes diarrhea?
Inappropriate diet or taking in something the baby is allergic with usually causes diarrhea. It is usually a result of the injury in the inner lining of baby’s intestine and prohibits proper digestion of food we take in. Hence, ‘rotavirus’ is also responsible for the same in infants.

How can we deal with it?
Often diarrhea leads to loss of water from the body in a great amount. Thus, ensure that the child intakes ORS solution, to fulfil the deficiency of adequate water and salt from the body. Therefore, if the child is allergic to lactose, avoid it for some time and consult a physician before giving them further in future. Provide your child with clean and hygienic water to drink in order to prevent the situation.

Jaundice: Jaundice is a serious illness that clutches the child at an early age. Almost 50% of the infants taking birth, suffers from Jaundice. When the body is unable to excrete the yellow content (bilirubin) from the body it results in Jaundice. The child often loses appetite and becomes pale. The color of the stool also changes and the urine turns yellow.

What causes Jaundice?

An anemic baby is more prone to Jaundice. Also, the collection of biles in the liver leads to Jaundice in an infant. There are certain enzymes in mother’s milk ( breast milk), which leads to breast milk jaundice.

How can we deal with it?
An immediate medical attention is required to cure the same. A proper physician or child specialist should be consulted and proper treatment should be provided to the child. Also, ensure the availability of proper hygienic water and food to the baby.
