Can women get pregnant during periods

Generally, it is known that women cannot conceive during their periods but this isn’t true always. It is possible to get pregnant during menstruation as well. If your period cycle is not completing the expected 28-30 days circle i.e., you start bleeding before the expected date of the expected upcoming cycle. The chances of getting pregnant rise high during this time. Let us know deeply about this matter.

How does the conception occur?
Ovulation generally happens in the middle of your menstrual circle, between the 9th and the 21st days. When the active sperm and eggs meet together inside the fallopian tube, the conception happens. This is the ovulation stage. Eggs stay alive just for one day. The male sperm lives for at least 3 days. The typical female menstrual cycle is 28 days. Day 1 is the first day of periods. But the ovulation happens around day 14, but it could be on the 12th, 13th, or 14th day of the cycle. When the ovary releases an egg for fertilisation, the ovulation happens. That time if a sperm is available in the uterus, the conception can occur.

How to get pregnant during periods?
It is possible to bleed during ovulation when you are highly fertile. This could easily be mistaken for a period. Having unprotected sex at this time increases your chances of becoming pregnant dramatically. For most women, the ovulation cycle is somewhere between 28 and 30 days. This means if you have sex during your periods, you would not likely to ovulate until a few days later. But some women have a shorter cycle, like 22 days or so. Hence, they do not have the same amount of time between their periodic cycle and ovulation.

There is an another consideration if a man’s sperm can live inside a woman for up to 72 hours after ejaculation. At the end of the period, the chances of becoming pregnant increase drastically.

Chances of getting pregnant during Periods:
The ability to get pregnant during the ovulation cycle can rise and fall. Averagely women have 28 days of menstrual cycle, while few of them have shorter and longer than this. It can be 22 or 40 days both. The likelihood of getting pregnant between one to two days of bleeding is quite lesser. But, the likelihood increases again with each successive day, even though you are still bleeding. The chances of pregnancy are estimated 9 percent roughly at day 13 after the start of the period. Though these numbers seem low, a woman can never be 100 percent sure that she would not get pregnant on her period.
