How To Treat Head Swelling At Home

An injury to the head leads to head bump and bruises. The forehead and the skull receive abundant blood, therefore, any injury to these parts of the head leads to bleeding under the skin causing bumps and bruises. The condition is also known as goose egg which. It leads to soft swelling on the head due to the accumulation of fluids from damaged blood vessels. The swelling can accompany a mild pain and stiffness on the head. You can prevent the swelling in the head by opting for some home remedies without depending upon the medicines. Therefore, please find below the home remedies for head swelling.

Cold Compress:

As soon as you feel the swelling on the head just take an ice pack and compress the injured area with the same. You can also take ice cubes in a towel for the same. The cold compress will tighten your blood vessels by vasoconstriction which will reduce the head swelling.

Warm Compress:

After the cold compress and when the 24 hours have passed, you can use a warm compress. The warm compress will allow the oxygenated blood and nutrients to reach the damaged tissues by opening the blood vessels.  You can take a towel and dip the same in hot water. Compress this wet towel on the head once the excess water is wrung out.

Turmeric:

The turmeric has a compound curcumin which is an antioxidant and helps in reducing the head bump. The anti-inflammatory property of turmeric helps in reducing severe pain. Therefore, make a paste by mixing turmeric and olive oil to apply the same on the injured part.

Arnica:

The arnica is an effective herb which has anti-inflammatory and analgesic property. The arnica oil is used to reduce head swelling and pain as it helps in the easy flow of blood to the injured part.

Castor Oil:

The castor oil is widely used to treat pain and swelling. Therefore, you can use castor oil by mixing it with honey and apply the same on the affected area. The anti-inflammatory property of castor oil will give you relief.
