A breast infection is also known as Mastitis. Breastfeeding affects women’s breast tissue. It mostly affects only one breast. Breast infection interrupts milk duct, which reduces the flow of milk, causing harmful bacteria to form. This can happen even when bacteria enter the breast through nipples. During breast infection, symptoms like pain, swelling, redness and tenderness or flu are initially experienced. Let’s know about some home remedies to treat breast infection:
Cabbage leaf leaves contain sulfur which helps in reducing the problem of swelling and infected breast. Leave cabbage leaves for 30 minutes in the refrigerator and then keep them on infected breast. When the temperature of a leaf is equal to the room temperature then replace it with another normal leaf. Repeat this process for many times.
Aloe vera works as a pain reliever and it also has a soothing effect which helps repair dry skin. Put the aloe vera gel on the affected area and leave it for a while. Then clean it with lukewarm water. (Also read: How does castor oil help to reduce the stretch marks)
Ginger has natural antibiotic properties which help to overcome the problem of mastitis. It helps in protecting against the bacteria that cause infection. Eat 2 pieces of ginger each day, this will provide you relief early.
Apple vinegar has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce inflammation caused by infections and also help fight against bacteria. Mix 1 teaspoon apple vinegar in 1 cup lukewarm water and apply it on the affected area and leave for 15 minutes. Then clean it with lukewarm water. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times a week.
Fenugreek seed stimulates the production of the milk and helps in treating breast infections at the same time. In addition, it contains flavonoid which helps in swelling and reducing infection. Soak four teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in the water. Next morning, make a paste and apply it on the affected area and wash it with lukewarm water. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times a week.
