The different manifestos of Goddess Durga are worshipped during the pious phase of Navratri with complete devotion. The eighth day of auspicious Navratri fasting is for Goddess Mahagauri and is also known as Durga Ashtami. These nine-days long festivities hold a different meaning each day. What is the significance of the eighth day of Navratri fast?
Each day of Navratri is as important as the other. The eighth day is for Goddess Mahagauri. She is very pure and divine in her appearance. This is another form of Goddess Parvati. She did great effort and hard penance to obtain Lord Shiva. As a result of which her complexion turned dark. When Lord Shiva acknowledged her dedication, he washed her with pure Ganges water. She then acquired such a divine beauty and complexion. THus, it also suggests that Goddess Mahagauri helps her devotees by washing off their internal impurities and bringing a new positive change in them.

What do we learn by worshipping Goddess Mahagauri?
The devotees who are observing fast on this day or during the complete period of nine days receives blessings from the Goddess. She shows the righteous path to her devotees. In fact, she also teaches them the lesson of purity and morality. On this day, a special Ashthami Puja is performed to please the Goddess.
