What is sleepwalking disorder and its treatment

The sleepwalking disorder is a kind of mental disorder. It means a person who is in deep sleep, gets up and walks or performs any other activity. The next morning there is no memory of the actions at all. It is usually found in the children of the age of 5 to 12.
In layman’s language, sleepwalking means walking while sleeping, but the proper scientific name for it is somnambulism. 15% of the children aged between 5 to 12 suffer from it. What causes sleepwalking disorder
Sleepwalking is termed as parasomnia which means an odd behaviour during sleep. It can be caused by various factors such as stress, disturbance in sleep schedule, travelling for a long period, fever, or sleep deprivation for a long time. Many health related factor too is responsible for this disorder such as Restless legs syndrome or Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Signs of Sleepwalking disorder
In this disorder, the person walks around, like he is awake. However, in reality, he is asleep. The entire the person remains unaware of his or her actions. It usually lasts from 10 minutes to 30 minutes, but it may stretch longer in some cases. The person stays asleep the whole time.

Other signs are
* Walking up with dizziness
* If someone gets in the way, the person suddenly violent turn.
* Not any memory of the actions that happened last night
*No sense of time on waking up

Diagnosis of Sleepwalking Disorder
To check for this disorder the doctor firstly checks for physical well-being. Then he tries to understand the mental condition of the person. Only then this disorder is diagnosed.

Treatment of the Sleepwalking Disorder
For this disorder, there is no need of a specific kind of treatment. Children who suffer from this disorder, get cured with age. However, if this disorder starts affecting a person negatively, it is important to seek medical help.
