Pelvic inflammatory disease is an infection of the reproductive organs in women. This infection is commonly called PID. Cause of Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases:
Generally, the cervix prevents bacteria that enters into the vagina from spreading to the internal reproductive organs. Sometimes the exposure of cervix to the STD invites Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. So, this makes the organisms travel from the Cervix to the upper genital areas.
Symptoms of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease:
The symptoms of the this disease can vary person to person. Still few of the symptoms include:
- Painful urination
- Vaginal Discharge
- Dull and painful stomach
- Lower abdominal pain
- High fever
- Nausea and vomiting
- Painful intercourse
Diagnosis of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease:
At first, your doctor will test all your detailed history of your genital and sexual activity. A pelvic test will definitely be done to examine you better. So, he or she will perform a pelvic exam to check the health of your reproductive organs and look for evidence of gonorrhoea and chlamydia infection. If your doctor suspects PID, he or she may order other tests, including:
1. Blood test to know about the evidence of infection
2. There would be an ultrasound test to know the status of your reproductive system.
3. Laparoscopy demands a small cut in the lower abdominal areas to make the test.
4. Endometrial biopsy needs a small sample of tissue from the uterus.
Treatments of PID:
PID needs an immediate checkup when it is diagnosed. The initial treatment for mild cases of PID usually consists of one or more antibiotics medications.
